Having an Older Pet - Tales of Miata Kitty 2

Cleaning the vomit out of the carpeting.

Miata Kitty has always had a delicate tummy and will vomit on a dime. So when we saw American Gangster and they were cleaning the blood out of the white rug and the character said, "don't rub, you have to blot this sh*t up," hubby and I took one look at each other and cracked up.

"You have to blot," is our mantra, it's the only effective way to get cat or dog vomit out of the carpet.

Here's how we do it.

You need paper towels, a spatula like device and a spray bottle of water.

Using a spatula (actually one of those wide things you use to feather out plaster, when you work on repairing walls - I just can't remember the proper name,) scoop up solids by running it in the direction of your carpet. Once you have the solids up, run it along the carpeting again to see if you can get the liquids up.

If you catch the vomit while it is still fresh, you can get a lot of yuck out of your carpet.

Then using paper towels, blot up as much of the remaining liquid as you can. Do not rub. Apply pressure down and allow the paper towel to absorb the liquid.

Once you have stopped picking up liquid remains this way, spray the carpet. Once the carpet is wet, any remaining cat puke will show up as a slightly discolored patch. Miata Kitty likes to arc spray, so we usually have a semi-circle over a large area.

Using more paper towels we continue to blot up what we sprayed, paying particular attention to where she threw-up.

We repeat until we can no longer see any discolorations (yes, it might take three or four sprays - sometimes more,) and the paper towels are not picking up any food dyes.

When we moved into our house, we had champagne colored carpeting. Between Ashes and Miata Kitty, we had to learn how to do this properly.

Now that we have dark carpeting, if the clean-up is not done right (guilty) you wind up with light colored spotting. Now you know how to clean cat vomit out of carpeting - such is my life.
